Construction companies focus on the safety hazards of a jobsite, because of their traumatic effect on not only the morale of the workers, but also the financial aspects. However, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) studies show that mental health issues and suicide in the construction are at a staggering high, which can also have a major impact on employee morale and the bottom line. In fact, the construction industry is the second highest for suicides.

This program is designed to provide the supervisors and safety managers with the knowledge and tools needed to incorporate mental health/suicide prevention into the company’s health and safety program.

Topics include:

· What is Mental Health?

· Frequency of Mental Health Issues in Construction

· Reasons for Developing Mental Health Issues

· Warning Signs of Mental Health Distress

· Strategies to Improved Mental Health

· Suicide Prevention Strategies

· Creating a Sober Workplace

In a time of mental distress, construction workers are prone to turn to alcohol and substances in order to cope. A special segment will be covered addressing substance abuse.
