PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Every year as the weather changes and we begin working out in the heat, workers succumb to various levels of heat illnesses, ranging from rashes and cramps which are uncomfortable, to Heat Stroke which can be fatal. 10 Years ago, during the Deepwater Horizon oil spill cleanup, thousands of newly hired workers and volunteers found themselves working in extreme heat conditions to which many were unaccustomed. OSHA and NIOSH stepped in to assist by applying lessons and techniques used by the military and professional sports teams during training to properly asses the risks throughout the day and proactively apply preventative techniques. Not a single worker was seriously sickened or killed by the heat. Jim Rogers is a construction safety and management consultant who has applied these techniques on client jobsites where temperatures have regularly exceeded 110 degrees in the Summer. He will explain these techniques and their application, tell you where you can find more information and technology that can help, and will review the signs, symptoms, and treatments for heat illnesses.
